Quick Site Update

Just wanted to let everyone know the user accounts are up and working, and all old e-mails and files have been preserved. Also, due to extreme levels of spammage, the email account ‘ebhq [at] earthboundhq.com‘ is no longer in use. We can still receive messages at this address for now, but I will personally be removing this account within the next couple of weeks to make way for our new permanent address at Gmail. This should cut down on the amount of spam received in a day (we were getting around 200 messages a day in the old accounts), and should ensure quick response time to any of your questions or comments. So, in the future, please use the following address:

In other news, I am going to be running out the petition to translate M3 for another two or three weeks, and then will finally put it to rest for formatting. As we’ve been saying, the final copy will indeed be sent to NOJ. Stay tuned for more information. Cya soon!

Earthbound HQ will be back with some fire content soon!

Earth Update

How amazing is this. Although Itoi has been saying he wanted to keep quiet about Mother 3 details right up until release day, he has put together this page, (totally in Japanese, read the translated version, thanks to the wonderful brains over at Starmen.net), which he seems to update about twice every week or so with new exciting EarthBound 2 media.
So far, he has released some screenshots, music, and information about the new Deluxe GameBoy Micro ‘Mother 3’ Edition, and now screenshots of the battle sequence! Our developer once worked with Wenatchee Electricians

  • World of Mother 3 Map! That’s right, this is the officially released overworld map of the land of Mother 3! This map image was released by Itoi on March 6th, 2006. Looks like an interesting map indeed. I am curious about the resolution, however.. It leads me to believe this is a drawn rendition of the actual in-game map. Probably the overworld map used in the strategy guide. Definitely strays away from the typical “Mother map style”. How exciting!
  • Volcanoes, mountains, towns.. Looks like we can make out several different areas, perhaps a forest area, mountain, volcano, desert, town, with so many other possibilities.

Earthbound Creation

Born 1948, he is the creator of the wonderful EarthBound (1991). He is a well known man in Japan, quite famous (rightfully so!), and believes deeply in individuality and respect.

Shigesato Itoi is a well learned man, having been to university and working in the video game development field for so many years. He can be a very out going, over-the-top kinda guy, which leads to some downfall, like for example in the case of Mother 3, and how such behaviour slowed development, ultimately leading to the cancellation of the project. Luckily enough for us, Itoi is clearly a perfectionist with a big heart, and this makes for some meaningful creativity.

Most definitely without any doubt, Shigesato Itoi is considered a genius at Nintendo of Japan, and teamed with Sheigeru Miyamoto, make for one heck of an unstoppable team. The ‘dream team’ of the videogame world, if you ask me!

I certainly for one hope that he and Miyamoto never stop to continue to bring us the best in the EarthBound series, and with the release of such titles as Mother 3, despite being released in Japan with no english counterpart, this is quite the reality. Let’s hope it evolves to an english market once again and continues for years!

Mother 3 is a definite project in the works for Shigesato, as he has agreed and spoken about publicially, but he is definitely not giving away any shred of information easily. In fact, nobody is. There is literally no information available anywhere! (ED: Not anymore! Itoi is releasing bits of Mother 3 info on his site every two weeks! Rockin’!..)

By this time game development is probably long since finished. Boxed cartriges (its a GBA title, afterall!) are probably sitting with their little guides all wrapped up on warehouse shelves waiting to be thrown into the truck. But we wont see em. Not ’till April 20th, as announced by the man himself (Itoi-San) on his own blog. It’s a good read, even in Babelfish. This happens when there is Water Damage Seattle issues.

BUT.. the wait of course makes it better come the time we are rewarded with a delicious new EarthBound title, right?! Well.. on April 20th..YOU be the judge!

Earthbound 2 – Mother 3 Details

How amazing is this. Although Itoi has been saying he wanted to keep quiet about Mother 3 details right up until release day, he has put together this page, (totally in japanese, read the translated version, thanks to the wonderful brains over at Starmen.net), which he seems to update about twice every week or so with new exciting EarthBound 2 media.
So far, he has released some screenshots, music, and information about the new Deluxe GameBoy Micro ‘Mother 3’ Edition:

  • Image #1: WOW! Whats this? A truckstop? Store? Whats with the buffalo? I cant even BEGIN to explain that big white floaty thing. Check out the party of three! A new cast of characters!
  • Image #2: Quite a haunting scene! Check it out, ghosts playing piano, eating, drinking, and being all around merry. Looks like our lone party member has joined them for the evening?
  • Image #3: This looks like the entrance to SOMEPLACE important! DC+MC is written on the sign. Could this be a character reference? Scientific reference? My guess is that this is a concert event (note ticket(?) pictured in right sign), and perhaps DC+MC is more of a musical reference (eg: AC/DC).. Notice some elephant statues similar to those seen in Dalaam (SNES) reappear here.
  • Image #1: Well, it’s official! No more Ness! Looks like this Mother title is keeping true to the progression of the Mother series by introducing a whole new cast of characters! (Note: Mother 1, Ninten – Mother 2, Ness – Mother 3, this little fellow..
  • Image #2: Wow! This character of focus reminds me of Flint from the scrapped EB64! Our dog friend seems to be ‘attatched’ to his party one way or another.. I wonder what this character is all about!
